Petr Koukal and his friends in Czech Republic gathered 2500 € which will be sent to Haiti for the second part of the project 1000 rackets for Haiti, a joint program from Solibad and Peace and Sport.Photos : Jana Rudolfova The charity project "1000 rackets Rackets for Haiti" was given a boost in the Czech Republic from October 2010 to March 2011, within the local badminton scene. And it was very successful, officially led by the top Czech badminton player Petr Koukal jr., Ambassador for Solibad, together with the longstanding Czech coach Mrs. Halka Bitmanova. And thi First ever czech badminton charity project earned over EUR 2500,-!!! Similar projects are very common in other countries as they represent very important and widespread source of sport financial support as well as humanitarian support. The Czech Republic is still in the early stages of such projects. At the beginning there were certain doubts about the idea to settle such charity project in the Czech Republic. However, it has become clear that Czech people, here mainly badminton players and coaches, their families and friends, would like to support young Haitians through the SOLIBAD Program. More than 900 € for Petr's racketThere were held different auction sales, charity collections and other actions during the whole badminton season. To collect money for donation, these actions took place during badminton tournaments of all categories. The biggest action took place at the end of the Czech National Badminton Championship in February 2011. Then, Petr Koukal, just recovering from a serious illness, won his 5th title in singles. He put his "winning" racket up for an auction and earned EUR 920,- more than what had been gathered for Lee Yong Dae's racket ! "We would like to thank those people who have made any donation. We would also like to ensure everybody that the whole sum of collected money is hand over to SOLIBAD and via them and Peace and Sport foundation will benefit the Haitian children. We hope the money help them to recover from the devastating earthquake at least in some way" said Koukal and his friend Halka Bitmanova. |
